MEETING
April 18, 2007
President, Douglas Pointon, called the meeting to order at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN in room E 107/109.

Doug welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave recognition to  the diverse group of case managers assembled. 

The budget was again discussed for this fiscal year—we are back on target with Sue Ellen Collins working 10 hours per month.   

Continuity of Care conference was briefly discussed at The Ritz Charles, Carmel, September 19th.

The Workers Compensation Conference, May 17, 2007 at the Ritz Charles, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (registration deadline April 19th) was announced.  Please contact Amy Brown, (317) 250-5738.

the Fort Wayne Chapter of CMSA is hosting their annual conference “Solving the Mental Health Puzzle” on May 17th.  For further information call Mary Ann Scheafer 260-691-3226.

The National CMSA conference is in Denver June 19-23, 2007 in Denver.  We expect to have six at least six representatives of our chapter at the conference.

Doug thanked everyone who participated in the brain-storming session for ’08 Conference speakers/theme at Crestwood West Campus.  Many good ideas were exchanged and we are on our way to a great Conference.  He signed the contract with Ritz Charles for The Chapter’s March 5, 2008 conference.

The duties of the Membership and Program Committees are in design and should be completed by the May meeting.  Doug again discussed the importance of volunteering for Committees “We are only as good as our membership will donate of their time and efforts.”
 

GREETERS

A special Thanks to Lou Ann Mckinney, and Arlyne Gant for greeting those in attendance today.  Certificates of Attendance were distributed by the Greeters at the end of the meeting.
 

REFRESHMENTS A Special Thanks was given to Carmel Care Center for providing the refreshments for the meeting.  In addition, Carmel Care Center sponsored our fee for the meeting room!

Financial report may be accessed from the Treasurer at any time.  At present CICMSA has just over $13,500 in the checking account.

Web page has been updated.  The 2007 program is posted.  Presently the financial report to CMSA is in preparation.  Changes of address and contact info will be forwarded to Sue for our permanent database.
 

COMMITTEE REPORTS
CONFERENCE

Doug explained that the time and place for CICMSA conference has been determined by the Committee.  It is March 5, 2008 at the Ritz Charles.  Gina Foster will be in charge of exhibitors, Deb Smith will be in charge of attendees, and Doug Pointon will be in charge of acquiring speakers for the event.  The next Conference Committee Meeting will be April 25th at Alliance.  Please email the co-chairs Kelli Collins (directoreast@justis.net) or Deb Smith (harbourisle@sbcglobal.net) for additional details.
 

MEMBERSHIP

Membership committee will be beefing up this year and will be manning the tables at the monthly meetings.   

All attendees introduced themselves and gave their position, place of employment, and history of involvement with CICMSA.
 

PROGRAM

Speaker: Sharon Stoten, MSN, RN,LNC,OTC,CNA,BC, Assistant Clinical Professor Department of Environments for Health

Sharon is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Indiana University School of Nursing-Indianapolis Campus, who teaches in the Online RN-BSN program at Indiana University School of Nursing.  She is also a Legal Nurse Consultant and has been the Administrator for a freestanding multi-specialty surgery center.  Please help me welcome Sharon Stoten.

Topic: Legal and liability Issues for the Case Managers

Sharon described the conditions that must be present for malpractice to occur and identified when the case manager is libel.  In additions, she described the importance of malpractice insurance.
