Speaker:  Sanford L. Pederson, PhD, Director, Great Lakes Institute for Neurophysiology and Behavioral Health, Greenwood, IN                 

Topic: The Role of Behavioral Health Providers in Healthcare: Enhancing Care While Decreasing Overall Costs 

Dr. Pederson will describe the role of behavioral health providers in the overall healthcare system and their relationships to other providers.  He will review the scientific data showing that the provision of behavioral healthcare services lowers overall cost of health care.  In addition, he will discuss how behavioral healthcare providers differ by specialty and credential, and when to refer to each type of provider.   As well as the conditions under which behavioral healthcare providers can, do, and should serve a primary care role.
