    Speaker:    Michael J. Demoratz, PhD, LCSW, CCM

    Topic:         Plotting a Course for the Effective Treatment of
                        Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Michael will discuss the science of rheumatoid arthritis, including pathogenesis, prevalence and morbidity; describe treatment modalities currently available for the patient with rheumatoid arthritis and cite scientific and clinical data that validate the efficacy of biologic therapy.  He will explore the role of the physician, pharmacist, case manager and clinical nurse in coordinating continuing care services with a significant focus on balancing fiscal responsibility with quality care delivery.

 In summary

         Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that can cause pain, deformity, disability while producing a significant financial burden on the American healthcare delivery system.

         With early diagnosis and treatment, patients can achieve outcomes that were not available 10 years ago. Options that may:
            Reduce the signs and symptoms of the disease
      –       
Induce and maintain remission
            Foster the achievement of desired treatment 
        outcomes including advancing quality of life for
        the patient with rheumatoid arthritis.
