One hour CEU for CCM & NASW Topic: How to be a Healthcare Leader Now and for the Future Speaker Name: Brad Harris, CPA, MSM, CNA, V.P. of Resource Development, Millers Health Systems We are experiencing a changing Healthcare model. The dominant direction of change affirms the need for a health care system that is more flexible and less costly than one that is heavily based on physical infrastructure requiring massive capital investment. In the future, health care delivery is likely to shift further out of large institutions and into ambulatory, community, and home-based settings. Hospitals and nursing homes are likely to serve increasingly acutely-ill patients while an evolving continuum of care will meet the needs of others. It is clear that a tidal wave of accountability is moving across the US. Insurability, access, safety, harm and suffering, financing, and integration of care are among the first places it will hit. Measurement of our progress as a nation against leading-edge practice, wherever it is found, will be systematic, purposeful, and relentless. Future healthcare will need to address changes in demographics, impact of an aging population, generational driven change in consumer preferences, advances in clinical technology, changes in health care organization and delivery, hospitals and nursing homes of the future, and areas of uncertainty. We will look at the history of medicine and what was learned to help us meet current and future healthcare opportunities with emphasis on the following areas:
