     Speaker Name: Meritta Harris, RN BSN, Regional Director of Clinical
                                 Services, National Healing Corporation

     Topic:  Fundamentals of Chronic Wound Care

     Meritta will describe the basic concepts of chronic wound care to ensure an optimal wound healing environment including the role of nutrition.  She will outline the role of a comprehensive patient/wound assessment for development of an appropriate plan of care that will list the stages of skin and tissue injury secondary to pressure related risk factors.  Evidence-based practice with recommendations for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers will be described as well as the selection of wound products/dressings related to optimizing the wound healing eniornment.

 

     Meritta’s background includes chronic and acute wound care as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  In her role as Clinic Nurse Manager at the Center for Wound Healing, Fort Hamilton Hospital, she was instrumental in the day-to-day management of all aspects of patient care and clinic efficiency.  In her more recent role as Regional Director of Clinical Services, she is responsible for over 12 centers –she is vital in the implementation of new programs/services, quality improvement region/center-wide and  is responsible for the oversight of training new panel providers and Clinic Nurse Managers.

 

She brings forward knowledge, a passion for wound care and an excellent understanding of all aspects of clinical operations.
